We live in a very chaotic world. We can attribute most of our confusion and misery to an impure mind. We often hear, “The mind is a terrible thing to waste!” How true that is, because it governs our every action. A wicked person has a wicked mind. A good person has a good mind. A good moral mind may help you through this world, but a good “spiritual” mind will lead you to an eternity in heaven.
The Bible teaches us about the spiritual mind of man and how to cultivate it. The wise man Solomon said, “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life” (Prov. 4:23). We must keep our heart “mind” pure. The mind is the depository for all that we observe and come to know. It is the wisdom, knowledge, thinking, reflection and memory of man. We must keep it with all diligence, which means, “to watch, guard, set out a post, be on the look out.” We must protect and guard our mind, with our life. It is the most precious thing we have. “For out of it are the issues of life,” a pure, honest righteous mind will guide us to heaven’s paradise. If we damage our mind with drugs, alcohol, sex, immortality, greed or other immoral life styles, then we are in serious danger of being lost for all eternity.
I have seen alcoholics and drug addicts that have destroyed their mind. Then can no longer make rational, reasonable judgments or decisions, and thus they will be lost for all eternity. God makes no excuses for those that destroy their cognitive powers of understanding. “ The soul that sinneth, it shall die.” ( Ezekiel 18:20).
What kind of person are you? What does your mind think about? “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he” (Prov. 23:7). What you meditate and ponder on most of the time, indicates where your true interest really lie! “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” (Matthew 6:21). This is why we need to read the Bible and pray to God seven days a week. We should pray to God when we get up, when we eat, and lay down for sleep. We should pray to God and thank him for all our blessings and his guiding hand and providence. As the prayers go up, the blessings will come down. We must study his word and continue to grow in the wisdom and knowledge of God’s holy word. Christianity is a 24/7 duty, honor and a privilege.
When the Christian soldier becomes weak and undisciplined, his mind is the first thing to go. We are in a war against the, “wiles of the devil” (Eph. 6:11). “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5:8 ). That word sober means, “to be in one’s right mind, alert, not confused, temperate.” The one who fears the lion will give his undivided attention to watch for him.
The mind of man is a very fertile ground. Just about anything will grow in it. That is why Paul said, “Abstain from all appearance of evil” (1 Thessalonians 5:22 ). God solemnly warns man to stay away from anything that might be evil. Once that seed is planted it is very difficult to up root it. Just think? If the drug addict had never tried drugs, he would be free from its vice. So many people have lost their soul to curiosity. They have partaken of what has become their forbidden fruit. “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure,” as the old saying goes.
What are some of the works of an impure mind? “Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness. Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: …which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.” (Gal. 5:19-21). Don’t let your mind be corrupted like these lost souls? Good Day.
