The High Cost of Sin

It amazes me that the word “sin” is seldom used today. When we look at all the crisis and problems that go on in the world, people call it by another name. Our society will talk about crime, but not sin. Society will speak about the breakdown of the family, but not sin. The world often talks about values, but not faith, and usually not what is right or wrong. Our definition of what is wrong in the world today is abstract. We don’t want to call it ‘sin” and take the blame for it. We must blame anyone and everyone other then ourselves for the problems of life. It should not be a news flash, but all the pain, sorrow, grief, death and misery in the world, is because of Sin.

What is “sin”? It is “missing the mark.” Like the archer that shoots his arrow toward the bulls eye, but misses the center target. He has fallen short of his goal. God has set standards for us and when we fail to meet those standards, then we sin (John 12:48). Our sins have a great repercussion to our souls. Our sins can turn the face of God away from us. “Behold, the LORD'S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: 2 But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear” (Isa. 59:1-2). The word “iniquitity” is defined as “lawlessness.” God will not hear those that disrespect him. Unless, you are righteous in his sight. The Lord’s blessing are always conditional on our obedience and respect for him (Ex. 19:5).

Sin hurts society and our country as a whole. Even the worldly people are beginning to see the need for family values. We need integrity, love, honesty and kindness, like never before. Yet, these same voice may call for tolerance of “alternate sexual life styles”, or the “right of choice” in giving birth or aborting a child. With these dissonant values at work, sin goes on wreaking havoc on our society.

“Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people” (Prov. 14.34). Our great country is the greatest nation in the world. While its cup runs over with wealth. It’s morality degenerates into an all time low. The greatest empires have often fallen from with in their structure. America will no doubt have the same fate one day. But let it be known that; “Christ has come into the world to save sinners” (I Tim.1:15). What is your sin? What price do you pay for the foolish choices you have made to rebel against God? “But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:15). Good Day!
